You can use the product as a backpack if you wanted to but it wont have double shoulder straps. It has a single strap meant to be worn across the body, on either side.

The main compartment is approximately 6.5 L, the front pouch is approximately 2.5 L, and the front bottom pouch is approximately 0.6 L.
