JD's Review of InfiTac DNVS 22mm Night Vision Monocular
Okay, let’s get this straight up front: the DNVS-14 Pro is not as good as analog. There, I said it. However, it is about 90-95% as good as analog, and with several advantages (no light damage, inside out compass and pitch/roll values, and IoT compatibility with Infitac’s thermal optics). I have also been able to bridge it with an analog PVS-14 using 3rd party mounting hardware (NF thermal arm, Obverse-style/OSS mount, etc.). And yes, the “fusion” is successful…a little janky given that you’re merging a box and a circle, but the depth perception is there and my eyes tolerate the rudimentary collimation. I have yet to test the device under extreme low light conditions, and that’s where I expect it to fall behind analog Gen 3, but in suburban or urban environments with a lot of light pollution or ambient sources, this thing works. I’m actually impressed. If you pair it with the IOL25, the value proposition is there.
Pros:
- Lightweight
- Seems well made
- lots of included accessories
- Adequate performance in all but extreme low light
- Internal compass, etc.
- IoT capability
Cons:
- FOV/eye relief could be more forgiving
- Difficult to remove power cable from unit
- Included bridge needs forward/rear adjustment
- More control over image color to match bridged device would help
- A round display would better bridge with analog NVGs
- Lenses could better quality/sharper
- Focus adjustment knob is small, stiff, and has a long throw
- Control knobs could be more tactical
- Menus could be more responsive
Best Used for:
- Training, hunting/guiding, suburban/urban home defense, range toy
