Fun as a nv gadget, though no match for gen 2 or gen 3 - NightStar 2x42mm Gen-1 Wide-View Compact Night Vision Monocular

For its price, the Nightstar monocular is a great buy - it really does work, the tubes are decent quality, the image is useable, the battery life is good, the IR illumination is effective. On the downside, I haven’t found a method of helmet mounting it, so it’s a truly handheld monocular, not a substitute for NVGs, but at this entry price, it’s hard to beat.
